Safety Tips for the Toilet

For the elderly or disabled, going to the bathroom can be tricky sometimes. AbleMart sells independent living products that make going to the toilet safer and easier. Toilet safety is a big issue, so here are a few suggestions on how to make going to the bathroom as risk free as possible.

1. Your water heater should be set to about 120 degrees F. Warm water will still be available but it is not so hot that it could burn or scald you, especially if you have sensitivity issues due to medical conditions or medications.

2. Make sure a loved one or caregiver is nearby when you go to the bathroom. If you want to lock the door, make sure it can be easily unlocked from the outside too, just in case you fall or if you need assistance.

3. We carry many different toilet safety devices, like non-slip rugs, grab bars, commode chairs, shower seats, organizers and more. These toilet safety products can help make going to the bathroom and taking care of hygiene necessities easier on you.

4. Your bathroom should have plenty of light so it is easy for you to see and get around. You can also buy a motion-sensor nightlight so you don't have to turn on a bright overhead light when you want to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. That way, you can still see what you are doing, but you don't have to turn on a bright light.

5. The items you use the most should be kept within easy reach so you don't have to dig too much to find what you need. Plus, keeping them close at hand means you don't have to reach for them.

6. A raised commode chair and non-slip rugs can really help improve the safety of your bathroom. Definitely consider these two items when you are looking for products to help improve the toilet safety at your home.
